In live events, plans can change quickly. Illness, emergencies, travel disruptions, family obligations, weather concerns, and unexpected schedule conflicts can all prevent even the most enthusiastic attendees from making it to an event.

That’s why Evvnt now offers Refund Protection at Checkout — an optional ticket protection add-on that gives buyers added peace of mind when purchasing non-refundable tickets. For organizers, it’s a simple way to strengthen buyer confidence without adding operational complexity.

What Is Refund Protection?

Refund Protection is an optional coverage add-on available during checkout for eligible events. Powered by Aegis, it allows ticket buyers to recover their ticket costs in qualifying situations if they’re unable to attend.

Once enabled on your ticketing portal, the protection option is automatically offered at checkout for qualifying events, so organizers do not need to manage settings individually for each event. The experience is designed to remain simple, seamless, and fully integrated into the buyer journey.

Why Refund Protection Helps Increase Buyer Confidence

A few strong stats and industry-backed data points on buyer protection.

  • Ticket protection providers report that buyer protection reduces checkout hesitation and lowers cart abandonment because buyers feel safer purchasing non-refundable tickets.
  • A 2026 survey from Allianz Partners found that:
    • 63% of consumers believe tickets over $100 should be protected with protection
    • 85% purchase ticket protection specifically to protect their financial investment
    • 89% said the claims process was easy or somewhat easy
  • TicketSignup states that ticket protection can help event organizers sell tickets earlier by reducing buyer hesitation during longer sales windows and higher-priced events.
  • AudienceView notes that refund protection creates “higher percentages of purchase completions” because buyers feel more secure knowing they may be covered during emergencies.

Refund Protection helps reduce that friction. By giving buyers the option to protect their purchase, you’re helping them feel more comfortable committing earlier and buying with confidence.

How Refund Protection Works

When a buyer purchases tickets for an eligible event, they may see the option to add Refund Protection during checkout. If selected, the protection appears as a separate line item in the order summary.

The buyer then receives confirmation and coverage details directly from Aegis, which also manages any future claims process. This means organizers do not need to manually review claims, approve reimbursements, or handle support issues related to protected orders.

Which Events Qualify?

Refund Protection is automatically offered only for eligible events. According to Evvnt’s support documentation, events must meet all of the following criteria:

  • The event must be non-refundable.

  • The event must be in-person.

  • The event must be more than 2 days away.

  • The tickets must be paid tickets.

  • The cart total must exceed $25.

If an event does not meet these requirements, buyers simply proceed through the standard checkout flow without seeing the protection option.

How Much Does It Cost?

The protection cost is calculated at 7.5% of the order subtotal, including tickets and add-ons, with a minimum cost of $6.00. The exact price is shown clearly before the buyer chooses whether to add coverage.

Transparency at checkout matters, and buyers always have the option to decline protection if they prefer.

Does It Affect Organizer Revenue?

No — Refund Protection does not reduce platform fee revenue. The protection appears as a separate line item, and platform fees are not applied to that amount. Standard payment processing fees still apply to the overall transaction total.

For organizers, that means you can offer added buyer confidence without creating additional payout complications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do event organizers manage claims? No. Claims and coverage are handled directly by Aegis.

Is Refund Protection required? No. Buyers can choose whether to add it during checkout.

Is protection available for free events? No. It is only available for paid ticket purchases over $25.

Can virtual events use Refund Protection? No. It currently applies only to eligible in-person events.

Is Refund Protection automatically enabled? Yes. It is automatically enabled on a site level. There is no per-event toggle. One way to “turn it off” is to change your seller account’s “Refund Policy” in your Organization’s Settings. If you adjust your settings to something other than “No Refunds” then that will prevent the refund protection option from appearing.
