Make your network work for you with 5 simple social media tips…
It’s interesting that in such a ubiquitously digital world, many people are still sceptical or scared of using social media. To remove some of the fear, and make social marketing a little easier to comprehend, here are 5 simple social marketing tips that anyone can follow to make the most of social networking, and social media.
1. Be yourself
The era of marketing spin is on its way out, and honesty in advertising is a big thing, especially with the younger demographics. People know when you are being disingenuous, and they really don’t like it. Sure, you can choose which aspects of yourself you want to present, and you can tailor your message to be most appealing to your audience, but don’t try to be someone you’re not. Your audience will see through it in an instant, and it will end up being detrimental to your brand.
2. Be visible
If you are going to embrace social media, truly embrace it. Don’t just set up your profile, and forget about it. If you do, you may occasionally get followers, but they will be few, and far between. Instead, go all in! Post all the time. Posts can include long-form articles that are designed to inform, not sell, or just be little snippets of information that you think will be useful to your audience.
3. Go hunting
Hunting for people on social media doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re looking for a particular person, but more that you’re trying to find your key demographic. These are people that will either be interested in your product, or will be influential in your industry. One of the best ways to hunt for contacts is by seeking out the social media accounts of your direct competitors. As you will want to appeal to the same audience, engage with the people you find there.
4. Talk to the top
By building relationships with people who are influential in your industry, such as thought-leaders and bloggers, you will be more likely to have your brand noticed. These people, if they believe in what you do, will be a great support network, and can really help your business become more visible online.
5. Surround yourself with smart people
This applies as much in life as it does online. When you surround yourself with the brightest minds, not only will they be a constant source of quality feedback and inspiration, they will also be more likely to become the thought-leaders of the future. If you situate yourself within these illustrious groups, you may also be seen as an expert in your field.
