Managing ticket sales are essential to running a successful event. Remember that, whatever the size of your event, selling tickets should be the end goal. However, you might feel that there is a big difference with selling tickets to events online.

Promoters who enjoy a good relationship with their venue will usually leave it up to them to offer ticket sales via phone or online.

If you’re new to event promotion or planning a small, independent event, there are lots of useful tools available to sell event tickets online.

1. Eventbrite
Eventbrite is a useful ticketing & event promotion tool for small to medium sized events. Ticketing pages can be easily linked and shared on Facebook or Twitter to share events with friends. Eventbrite manages registrations as well as selling tickets, to ensure organisers are in control of the guest list.
Payment options for Eventbrite are also flexible. Users can create different types of tickets, each priced at a different rate, and set up discount codes for attendees or partners.

2. Facebook
With so many bands switching over to Facebook from MySpace to promote their upcoming gigs, it was only a matter of time before someone built a ticketing app for Facebook Pages that lets music fans buy tickets directly through Facebook. One such company is WePay who have built an app for Pages called Sell Tickets that allows users to sell tickets for any Facebook Event and lets users create an event directly from the app itself.

3. Etickets
Etickets claim to make it quick and easy to start selling tickets or manage registrations for events. All you need to get started is a valid PayPal or Google Checkout account and then users can easily manage a Sales & Reservations page completely for free.

4. Skiddle
Skiddle is an event ticketing and what’s on guide that also offers paid promotion on their own website. It’s particularly useful for promoting music and DJ events in major cities across the UK. To start selling tickets via Skiddle, users upload their listing to the site and add the Buy Tickets option.
Skiddle will manage the sale on the promoter’s behalf and send detailed information about how many tickets are being sold. The promoter will receive the full face value of the ticket, Skiddle add a booking fee to this and charge the customer for it.

5. Event Elephant
Event Elephant is ideally suited to selling tickets for small community meetups or large conference events. Users can build registration pages with information about attendees, agenda or delegates. There’s also an option to send attendees a reminder email and encourage them to share the event on their social networks. Once RSVP is confirmed, attendees can use the secure payment facility to purchase event tickets online, with several payment options available.
